The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
