The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their first championship series since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a four games to three victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, our country," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now slugged 23 playoff homers, ranking him third on the list after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person anywhere that I want up in that situation besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club that has never reached in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" following his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts this season.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.
Toronto won the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
