Shock as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by three individuals, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.
The reason of the attack is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.
How It Happened
Law enforcement said that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the site supervising the setup of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," authorities stated.
CCTV footage showed a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed across the street.
Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the crime scene.
