Recent Details Emerge Concerning the Discovery of the Reiner Couple's Bodies
Fresh particulars have surfaced regarding the shocking deaths of esteemed director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday.
The Discovery
A source indicates citing a confidential source, a practitioner arriving for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after not being able to enter the residence. The therapist then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides nearby.
When she went into the house, Romy found her father's body. Accounts indicate she then fled the house in anguish, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. A companion who had gone with her contacted 911. Afterward, first responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Legal Charges
The police have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of murder in the first degree, along with the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is presently detained without bail.
Disputed Reports
The anonymous source challenged several initial details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a detached unit on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that moment.
The source also pushed back against widely reported notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in recent weeks. Instead the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation applies to reports of reportedly "erratic" conduct by Nick at a gathering hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. While the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they said that reports of a "heated argument" between the two were untrue.
Investigation Timeline
Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Some accounts noted the state of their bodies suggested they had been dead for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the residence. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not received medical clearance and would not appear until Wednesday or later.
