President Trump Calls Families of Shot Guard Members to the White House

Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to come to the executive mansion.

He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Devastating Event

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.

Presidential Call

The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Support

Mourners came together over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid public safety in DC.

Remembering the Soldier

“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always willing to assist people.”

Memorial plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Measures and Government Changes

Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The event led the administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of Afghan passports.

Status of the Airman

The airman, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to speak to the family.

Memory of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” the governor addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
