Numerous Come to Opening Israeli Memorial Service After Hostage Bodies Were Returned
As Michel Illouz carefully navigated through the masses beneath the cypress trees and palm trees at the graveyard in Ra'anana, a urban center located about 21 km north of Tel Aviv, he expressed gratitude to numerous participants as he could.
Previously he offered an welcoming message to the local community to stand with his relatives in mourning his young adult son, Guy, whose remains had been repatriated from Gaza on Monday.
Massive Turnout
Thousands responded the call. They lined the streets, accompanied the funeral vehicle carrying his body, and gathered at the burial site in such substantial amounts that the primary scheme to stage the ceremony indoors had to be canceled.
Instead, the gathering was held outdoors, accompanied by the chorus of birdsong.
Important Moment
This marked the opening memorial service since the final two dozen captives were released from Gaza, along with several deceased individuals. A further more than twenty of the dead prisoners are still unaccounted for, but at least this loved ones now had a particular spot to express sorrow and remember their son, according to friends.
Heartbreaking Narrative
Guy Illouz, a artist and recording specialist, had been shot in the back at the Nova music festival during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Prior to the incident, he had called his father from a sheltered spot to express his love; to say goodbye. He was captured, and based on those imprisoned alongside him, he eventually succumbed from his injuries due to lack of treatment.
Loved One's Insight
A trusted companion of the Illouz family, Michelle, fifty years old, mentioned that it had been extremely important to them that the public gathered today. The Illouz relatives, including Guy's siblings and brother, had undertaken the traditional grieving process, the week-long period of grieving, after learning of his passing in December of the year before. But now that Guy was at long last back with them, they desired "people around them again."
"My spirit is uplifted that you came," expressed Michel. "Your presence is deeply appreciated."
Dad's Eulogy
He spoke to his son. "Beloved Guy," he said, using a affectionate nickname, "it's hard for me to conceive the time to come without you. They took you from me – they killed you – they captured my essence and stole my identity and killed my inner being and feelings."
"There's a void within me since that meaningless attack by those vicious attackers when they apprehended you and instructed you to turn around, and then simply fired two gratuitous rounds into your back."
Ultimate Parting
"And here I am this morning, heading toward Abu Kabir medical examiner's office to verify your remains and say goodbye. They removed the white sheet, and the first thing I saw was that familiar expression, that optimism, that calm demeanor and dignity that so defined you."
"I reached out, tried to sense your aroma, gently felt each part in your body. I looked at you, I was in private with you, and yes, I felt with total assurance that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've returned to us. You've returned to your loved ones' arms, to all your companions, and to the countless people whose emotions your narrative touched."
Family Strength
During the early part of the ceremony, Illouz had dedicated all his efforts on consoling his younger children. He gently touched the locks of his female children, supported his male child, kissed his neck and maintained composure for them. But then his voice broke.
Precious Moments
"I will yearn for so much journeying together through this nation, feeling you, enjoying your artistic creations, resting on elevated terrain and lighting the burner to create the drink the way only you mastered – 'Papa, do you see the coffee foam? You have to heat it slowly, let the foam rise, then boil it again. Mix the beverage with spinning actions' – and then your expression while enjoying the drink and your delight in every individual sip."
"Before I left Abu Kabir today, I kept my promise. I observed you, absorbed your presence one ultimate occasion, and yes, I bestowed affection on the brow. I was could perceive your attractiveness even in the state in which you were repatriated."
Closing Statement
"My Guy-shuk, I love you so much, I cherish you. I will miss you every second and brief period of my time. Be at ease, my dear child, repose after a journey of 24 months through unfamiliar realms to us. I love you, my Guy-shuk, my treasured initial offspring."
