Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
