Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD shared security footage Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
