How the Broncos together with the malleable quarterback can stop the Kansas City Chiefs' reign.

Week six of the 2025 NFL season
Live coverage includes text commentary of the weekend matchups via various channels, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash in London (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, radio commentary can be heard through select stations for another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
It's week six of the football calendar and after last week's discussion about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being possible championship contenders, they both surrendered their perfect starts.
Notable during those contests were the amount of penalties each conceded. The Eagles did so in key moments meaning they essentially defeated themselves having led 17-3 entering the fourth period versus the Denver Broncos, set to play overseas this Sunday.
But it was good to see how Denver's QB Bo Nix was able to overcome that deficit before lead three successful possessions on three possessions during the final period, to win the game 21-17.
The Broncos have the defensive player of the year in CB Pat Surtain II. They are first in red zone defence, while the Eagles are number one in red zone offence, and Denver prevailed in that contest.
They executed effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They did not necessarily rushing more than four defenders instead they might position two LBs in the interior then drop them out and send a nickel off the edge.
At the start of the season, we said during a show that Denver could be the current year's surprise contenders. They finished the previous year strongly then did a good job in continuing that momentum.
Are the Denver Broncos this season's dark horses?
Recently acquired tight end their tight end has excelled significantly while recent RB JK Dobbins is a guy they believe in. He's currently 5th in the NFL for rushing yards (402) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (4).
I love how head coach the Broncos' leader displays "RUN IT!" prominently of his playcall sheet.
This demonstrates that Denver are a team that wants to run first, because one can do a lot off the back of that. It slows down the pass rush and maintains in positive down and distances.
This has helped QB the young passer, who came into the league as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – just behind a star QB for the rookie record (31 back in 2020).
Other elite QBs have the arm strength to throw all over, but they don't move in the same way that Nix has. He has incredible arm talent, which is different, plus he's so athletic.
His assets are his movement, being able to pass while moving, as well as finding varied release points to deliver the pass as he moves outside protection, on rollouts. He can throw that layered pass over the middle or over the corner.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he's got a lot of poise in the pocket and is not really fazed by the blitz. He aims to avoid being tackled whenever possible and can throw in tight spots. He possesses a high football IQ and is quick to decide.
When you consistently run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the opponent to stay in play extended periods, and if you've got a mobile QB the defense has to cover the field downfield and horizontally. This proves draining.
Nix has pushed back with the coach during games at times and it seems Payton likes that attitude, seeing him as a fierce rival. I think it's exciting for the coach to have a young quarterback that is similar to play-dough. The coach can really build something up how he wants to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.
The head coach owns a championship and now passed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He's seen it all. In my opinion the success Denver are having offensively is largely due to his leadership, his schemes, his game sense – and the pairing with Nix aids make him what he is.
There's no better a better guy in your ear, to assist you during some of the tougher situations and boost self-belief.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they good enough to go against an elite team at full strength? Since that wasn't a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles in their last game.
Right now, I don't think the Broncos are elite. They're working above average, that's a solid position to hold the AFC West. All they need is is maintain this trajectory.
They excel at embracing their strength, which is the ground game, and this is precisely what they should do versus the New York Jets in London. It's going to be a Dobbins-focused game, essentially.
New York have allowed 140 rushing yards each contest (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (in the bottom ten), and they're the sole squad yet to win a game.
Ever since the league began tracking takeaways decades ago, this team are the inaugural squad to go without any turnovers in five outings, which is surprising considering that the head coach was previously defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.
After this Sunday's game, Denver have a manageable slate until their break (in week twelve) - the Giants, Dallas Cowboys, the Texans plus the Raiders before the Kansas City Chiefs.
In their division, the Chiefs are 2-3 while Denver are even with the Chargers at 3-2 meaning they could make a run at leading the West.
It depends upon which form of the Chiefs they face since Denver {beat|def
