Ex- Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a ex- physician now faces charges for carrying out assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

Details of the Grave Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents outline the 45 charges include:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
