Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to change things and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Response

Slot expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always fight.”

“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
